Rant With Me- Princess Lineup

You’re about to dive head first into the unorganized, rant-filled portion of my Disney-oriented mind- enjoy…or hate. Either way, feel free to join in on the ranting fun down below in the comments.

I’m just going to get right into it; what is up with the Disney Princess lineup? According to the lineup they only have 11 princesses, one of them being Mulan. Did Disney forget about the dozens of other princesses that are actual princesses and the large amount of other women from films that have the same qualifications as Mulan?

Let’s be real, there are some women in Disney films that are actual princesses who are awesome that don’t get recognition as a princess because their film was not considered a huge success or wasn’t a blockbuster; Kida from Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Eilonwy from The Black Cauldron, and of course Ariel and Eric’s daughter, Melody.

Along with these actual princesses, there are so many heroines that could qualify just like Mulan did. The one that stands out the most for me is Esmeralda from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. To be fair she was in the lineup when the franchise began in 2000 but was never seen again in the franchise’s merchandise after 2005. There has been loads of speculation on why she was removed- from her costume to the unpopularity of her film to not having a proper home in the film. Nothing has been said as to whether or not she will ever be added back into the lineup but fingers are crossed she does. Esmeralda is one of the strongest female protagonists from a Disney film. She stands up to the law for her people, she doesn’t care about how the people she associates with appears, and is witty and always ready with a good comeback.   Nothing has been said as to whether or not she will ever be added back into the lineup but fingers crossed she does.

Lastly, I have to mention the redesign of the princesses in the lineup that occurred in 2013. I understand that it was done to appeal to children more and to sell more merchandise by making them look like Barbie dolls, but they made them look like Barbie dolls. I mean come on, Mulan and Merida are independent spitfires who are always ready for a good fight, not girls doused in glitter looking ready for a magazine shoot.

As stated, these are all my personal opinions I felt like ranting on. Feel free to leave a rant in the comments!

I completely agree! Plus, Cinderella’s bangs bother me endlessly! Who had side bangs in 1950? No one! Her original bangs are fine just the way they are!!!
