Let’s start off with the current Star Wars presence in the park that allow guests to experience the most famous galaxy far, far away. Star Tours, an attraction that resides in Tomorrowland in Disneyland Park as well as in Echo Lake in WDW’s Hollywood Studios, Disneyland Paris, and Tokyo Disneyland, made its first appearance in 1987. When the ride first opened, guests were able to board the Endor Express and discover a crazy flight through space with an inexperienced robot captain all the while on a tour to the Endor moon. The current version of the attraction, now known as Star Tours- The Adventures Continue, made its way into the parks in May of 2011. The “sequel” to the old ride contains way more special effects including 3D technology, C-3PO as the flight captain, multiple destinations and combinations of destinations, as well as a search for a rebel spy found in the audience! This is just one of the ways that Star Wars fans can enjoy the world of Jedis, the force, and so much more.
In fact, there is a show in which younger guests can learn how to be Jedis and be tested against Darth Vadar and others who use the darkside of the force. The Jedi Training Academy can be found in both Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. During this show Jedi trainers search the crowd for young kids who would like the opportunity to become Jedis. Once picked, the kids get suited up in a brown cloak and are provided a lightsaber for the duration of the training. At the end of the show the kids get to show off the skills they learn and even get a chance to fight the darkside.
If you are the active Star Wars fan and feel like just practicing with your lightsaber isn’t as sufficient of a workout plan as you’d like, RunDisney sponsors multiple Star Wars themed races. The races usually happen in January and include half marathons, 5k, 10k, kid’s races, and the Star Wars Rebel Challenge that is over 19.3 miles long! So if you would like to get fit and have a special place in your heart for Star Wars, then these are the events for you.
In Walt Disney World at Hollywood Studios, the resort hosts Star Wars Weekends from May through June. During these weekends special entertainment, fireworks and so much more are available at the park. There are even character meet and greets where your biggest fantasies of meeting these characters can come to life!
There is already tons of Star Wars merchandise that can be found at the parks, but The Disney Parks Blog announced today that you will be able to purchase even more trinkets with your favorite characters on them. Check out some of the new merchandise below!
